My Story
Reverend Dr. Marcus J. Gibson is a native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He is a 1990 honor graduate of Watson Chapel High School. He holds a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB), a Master of Divinity (M. Div.) degree from the Morehouse School of Religion (MSR) on the campus of the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC), and a Doctor of Ministry (D. Min.) degree from the McCormick Theological Seminary through the Association of Chicago Theological Schools (ACTS) Doctor of Ministry in Preaching Program. He has completed Level One Clinical Pastoral Education training at St. Francis Hospital. He is a former United States Army officer, serving on active duty from 1995 to 1999.
Dr. Gibson is actively involved in many church, civic, and community-based organizations within the Columbus, Georgia area. He has actively participated in the National Baptist denomination, serving on Congress faculties at the local, state, and national levels. He is a past dean of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia Congress of Christian Education and is the current moderator of the Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Association in Columbus, GA. Dr. Gibson is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and is a Master Mason out of Electric Light Lodge #45, Arkansas Jurisdiction, Prince Hall Affiliate.
Dr. Gibson is the pastor of Greater Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Georgia, where he has served faithfully since 1999. He is the father of one son, MarDarius Renard, and one daughter, MarKayla Carrie Beatrice. He has borne witness to the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the lives of those who make up this local community of believers as they strive for the continual advancement of God's kingdom in this world. Dr. Gibson is a preacher who is passionate about the Church, his family, his faith and the Word of God.
